Could an AI Replace Your Texting?

Hi, I’m Robby! I’m a software engineer who loves building AI systems. I’ve always wondered: could I let an AI handle my social life for a day? So, I decided to find out.

I built ClawdBot. It’s a custom AI agent I created by taking a smart model and running it on my own home computer. For 24 hours, I didn’t send a single text. Every single reply was written by the AI.

The Big Challenge

To see if this was a good idea (or a huge mistake), I gave ClawdBot three missions:

  • The Gym Buddy: Could it keep up with my workout plans?
  • The Scammer: Could it trick someone trying to steal my data?
  • The Girlfriend: Could it handle a real, personal conversation?

What Happened?

Things started off pretty well! The AI was good at keeping the conversation going with my gym buddy. It felt almost human.

When a scammer messaged me, the AI was actually a lot of fun. It was quick, smart, and didn't fall for the trick. It’s pretty satisfying to watch an AI win an argument against a scammer!

But then, things got a little scary when it started texting my girlfriend. Let’s just say, AI is getting really smart, but it still has a lot to learn about human emotions. It almost caused a big misunderstanding!

The Final Verdict

Can an AI replace you? For simple things, sure! It’s great at being an assistant. But when it comes to talking to the people you care about, nothing beats being yourself. AI doesn't always know when to be funny or serious, and that can lead to some funny (and slightly stressful) moments.

It was a wild 24 hours. Would you ever let a robot text for you, or is that a recipe for disaster? Let me know what you think!
