Your Claude Pro subscription is worth far more than you are paying for it. A new study put real numbers on it, and if you are a power user, you are getting a deal that probably will not last.

The Study

SemiAnalysis bought one of each Anthropic and OpenAI subscription plan, then ran long-horizon coding tasks against each one until they hit the weekly usage limit. The goal was simple: figure out how much compute you actually get before the plan cuts you off.

The common assumption was that a $200 per month plan tops out around $2,000 worth of tokens at API pricing. The real numbers were much higher.

The Numbers

Here is what they measured for maximum possible token value per plan:

Anthropic (Claude)

  • Claude Pro: $20 per month, up to roughly $400 in value
  • Claude Max 5x: $100 per month, up to roughly $2,000 in value
  • Claude Max 20x: $200 per month, up to roughly $8,000 in value

OpenAI (ChatGPT / Codex)

  • ChatGPT Plus: $20 per month, up to roughly $700 in value
  • ChatGPT Pro 5x: $100 per month, up to roughly $3,500 in value
  • ChatGPT Pro 20x: $200 per month, up to roughly $14,000 in value

Look at the entry tier. A $20 Claude Pro plan returning $400 in token value is 20x your money. And the top OpenAI tier hitting $14,000 on a $200 plan is genuinely wild.

Why They Are Doing This

These companies are subsidizing your usage. They are buying market share and locking in habits while the funding is there to support it. For power users who lean on these tools every day, that is an enormous amount of compute being handed over well below cost.

Take Advantage Now

Subsidies like this do not stay this generous forever. Pricing tightens, limits shrink, and the math shifts once these companies decide it is time to make the unit economics work. If your workflow depends on heavy AI usage, this is the window to lean in and get the most out of it.

Whether you are on ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, you are almost certainly leaving value on the table. Use it while the numbers are this good.
